In modern societies, environmental pollution is an increasingly serious problem, and solutions must come through the way companies operate. There is a special focus on the logistics and parcel transport sector, which is the most polluting, accounting for 25% of annual CO2 emissions.
Traditional home deliveries, although fast in terms of time, have a considerable environmental cost. Each parcel that arrives at our home means one more vehicle on the streets, one more route, more carbon emissions. Faced with this challenge, InPost's goal is to represent a more sustainable solution: non-home deliveries. A proposal that not only seeks to reduce pollution, but also to offer a more efficient and convenient option for sending or receiving your parcels.
Carbon emissions in home and non-home deliveries
InPost's non-home deliveries are rapidly gaining ground in the market. The reason is simple: more parcels are delivered with fewer stops. By reducing the number of individual deliveries, the traffic generated is reduced, which also reduces congestion in cities, decreases infrastructure wear and improves air quality. This efficiency is not only beneficial for the planet, but also translates into cost optimization and an improved experience for all parties, thanks to flexibility in sending and receiving parcels.
According to the study carried out by South Pole for InPost, non-home delivery potentially reduces carbon emissions per parcel by between 64% and 86%, depending on how the consumer collects that parcel. More specifically, the study estimates that delivery outside the home can reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 146.4g per parcel. A significant reduction that represents a viable alternative and a real response to the problem.
How do sustainable deliveries through Pack Points and Lockers work?
InPost deliveries are made through strategically placed collection points, which are divided into Pack Points and Lockers. Pack Points are collection points located in small street shops, and Lockers are permanently available automatic lockers found in commercial spaces such as gas stations, supermarkets or shopping centers.
Currently, the InPost network has more than 11 000 Pack Points and Lockers on the Iberian Peninsula, so that there is always one near you, making every parcel you send or receive an efficient process, as well as a sustainable one. Sending a non-home parcel with InPost is very simple, and the procedure is done almost entirely via the internet.
Our green and social commitment
InPost is fully aware of the impact that transport companies can have on the environment and of the importance that sustainability has for companies and modern consumers. That is why we have taken proactive measures to ensure that our way of operating is as green as possible. It is a matter of corporate responsibility and doing what is right for the good of the planet.
We have set an ambitious goal: to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2040. We have set science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
Sustainability is a shared responsibility
Choosing sustainable shipping methods is a shared responsibility between companies and consumers. By preferring sustainable options, we help the planet and take steps toward a better future. Every time someone prefers collection point pickup over home delivery, they are making a decision that reduces their carbon footprint.
To maximize the impact on emissions, the ideal is for the parcel recipient to go to the Pack Point or Locker in an equally eco-friendly way, such as on foot, by bicycle, or by taking a trip they would make anyway. The effect of this simple care is significant and should not be underestimated.
Other benefits of non-home deliveries
In addition to environmental issues, deliveries outside the home offer tangible solutions to current urban challenges. One example of how cities are adapting to these challenges is the recent implementation of the “Amazon tax” in the city of Barcelona. This tax requires home delivery companies to pay for parking while making deliveries. This measure, which is being considered for other cities in Europe, aims to create less polluted cities and ease traffic on the roads.
Lastly, this delivery method is also synonymous with efficiency, affordable prices and convenience for senders and recipients. Visit our page to find out more about us and experience these advantages for yourself.
