How to prepare a parcel for shipping with InPost

Sometimes, sending a parcel can be quite stressful. What kind of packaging should I use? What are the dimensions of shipping packaging? How do I pack a parcel correctly?

Don't worry, in this article you'll find all the answers to these questions and more.

We'll also tell you the steps you should follow to prepare your InPost shipments in the fastest and most correct way. So that your parcels don't get damaged and so that no losses occur during transit.

Shipping labels

We start with the first step, the shipping labels for your parcel. When you register the parcel shipment on the InPost website, you will have access to two labels: the shipping label and the recipient form.

As soon as the labels are generated on our website, you must print both labels. You should stick the shipping label on the outside of the package and the recipient form inside the parcel. That way, if during the logistics process the shipping label tears or becomes illegible, our team will be able to find the recipient and make the delivery.

A good extra tip is to reinforce the protection of the shipping label. For example, you can put more tape over the label or even place the label in a plastic sleeve, and stick the sleeve to the package. The minimum label size is A5 (half an A4 sheet).

Dimensions and the correct types of packaging for shipping

When you're preparing your InPost parcels, one thing you should pay attention to is the correct sizes and types of packaging for shipping.

As for the types of packaging that are accepted, there aren't many restrictions. Depending on what you're sending, you can (re)use cardboard boxes (that you have at home), bubble mailers or even plastic bags (sturdy and well sealed).

When it comes to packaging sizes, for logistical reasons, the minimum you can use is equal to half an A4 sheet, about 10cm x 15cm.

On the other hand, the maximum dimensions of length + width + height must not exceed 150 cm. Keep in mind that the longest side must not exceed 60 cm. We also remind you that currently the maximum weight of parcels we transport is 10kg.

How to pack my parcel

Now that you know everything about the labels and the correct dimensions for sending parcels with InPost, it's time to get to work.

You should use a closed and sturdy package, regardless of the contents of the parcel you are sending, in order to protect them.

If the packaging you use is larger than the contents, we recommend filling the box with some kind of protection. You can use paper or old newspapers, kraft paper or even bubble wrap. It's a way to make sure your parcel is well protected.
