Sometimes, it may be necessary to ship an unusual product or item, such as a suitcase. Many questions arise when shipping these items, and we aim to answer all your questions.
Shipping a suitcase works practically the same as any other parcel shipment you make with InPost; however, there are some things you should pay special attention to. Keep reading to learn everything about how to send a suitcase correctly with InPost.
What type of suitcase can I send? Are there restrictions?
The type of suitcase you can send is always one of the most frequent questions. At InPost, we do not impose any restrictions regarding the type of suitcase you want to send.
For logistical reasons, there are, indeed, conditions that apply to any shipment you make with InPost. The conditions you should pay attention to are weight and dimensions. Therefore, the maximum admissible shipping weight is 10kg. On the other hand, you should also pay attention to the suitcase dimensions, and the sum of the dimensions must not exceed 150 cm. That is:
(Length + Width + Height) < 150 cm
Regarding the size of the suitcase / packaging, you should also pay attention to the fact that its longest side must not exceed 60 cm.
What is the best option for packing a suitcase?
During the transportation and shipping process of a suitcase, some mishaps can happen. Although a suitcase on its own is quite durable, it is important that you pack it properly, just like any other item you send.
Packing and protecting the suitcase is a way to ensure it will reach its destination in the best condition. Here are some tips on how to pack your suitcase in the best way.
The safest way to pack a suitcase is to find a cardboard box that does not exceed our maximum dimensions, place the suitcase inside, and protect it with sheets of old newspaper, kraft paper, or bubble wrap.
Another way to pack the suitcase is to protect it with plenty of cling film (for example, as they do at airports). If you choose this option, don't forget to reinforce the protection of the suitcase wheels (if it has any), since they are more fragile parts.
What documentation do I need to send a suitcase?
The documentation needed to send a suitcase is the same as for any other shipment with InPost. When you place your shipping order on our website, you will be asked to print two labels. One should be placed inside the package and the other should be firmly attached and clearly visible on the outside of the package.
This is an extremely important part of the shipping process, since it is the way to locate your order and for the courier to know the suitcase's destination. Therefore, by following these steps, you ensure that the suitcase shipment goes as smoothly as possible.
